"Markhor" (Ibex) is the national animal of Pakistan. The word "Markhor" is Persian for "Snake Eater". They are found mostly in Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. Large scale of illegal hunting has reduced the number of ibex in region to an alarming scale. Markhor is a large goat ranging from 65 to 115 centimeters tall at shoulder and usually weighs between 40 to 110 kilograms. This animal is flare-horned. It has been listed among the endangered species.
